Hubby is happy as well - we had put old computor chair round side of house but just round so could be easily seen as bags of compost, soil etc there well he went out to put some rubbish out and noticed someone has taken chair, so that means no trip to the tip for him, which he hates going to. Chair just needed seat redoing but he picked up another one from work that was heading for tip which was perfect ( as was old when we got it 10 years ago the same way, both times he checked with big boss he could take it ) so that is why I was letting it go as did plan to redo seat...........so don't know if it was passing scrap man or someone just couldn't resist a ok but wet chair..........but any way he is one happy man lolNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Evening!
Congrats Stiltwalker, Unixgirl, Kate and Pips Mum! Not many days when so many can be handed out !
Well done PAH for shaking the bigwigs out of their offices - amazing what happens when you call their bluff!
Sorry you still being burggred about Smiley, keep poking at them with a big stick.
Well my good news is - we picked and ate a small serving of runner beans last night AND I picked up another 5ltrs of double cream at the wholesalers for the grand sum of £3.50. Converted to butter this pm I made 10 250g blocks plus a bit extra. Also got a mesh box of mushrooms, £3 instead of 6, all sliced and being cooked ready for freezing. Very handy for bunging into pasta sauces and chillis.
Small wins but I take what I can get!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Thanks everyone :-)
Just unpacked part 1 of my Approved foods order, mix up at depot means 1 box today and another tomorrow. OH laughed at how much Naan bread and bread mix we now have but I reminded him that until about an hour ago he had no job so I was preparing for the worst!
My beans were absolutely rubbish this year, anyone know if I have time to plant some more from seed/pods/ whatever you call them? Pip did manage to have home grown strawbs for his tea, there was only about 5 but some more are on their way!Debt at LBM [strike]£17,544[/strike] £5700:TOver £14,000 PAID OFF :T

Still another 5hrs to go so hoping something else good will happen -anyone done the eurolottery I forgot about it, only do it every so often if something brings it to my attention, but good luck to those here who bought tickets
I forgot or rather too late to do online(I have never done online)and I did not get to the supermarket. As I am a bit better off at present I'll buy it every week now and maybe the National lottery too(I no longer put the same numbers on)just lucky dip...if you are going to win you'll win...
My problem is if I don't spend enough, I may be in trouble as I will have spare cash building up, if I reduce my income I become worse off by choice, or it happens anyway.
What I really could do with is coming into enough money so it does not matter if I have savings and could afford the rent and use the DLA for taxi's food and heating or if that is stopped have savings and not take any State help.
It ain't going to happen...
Great news on those who have passed their exams, have gained work(that they want)and may soon...
I can sit here now and put my jumpers on to be warm like Fuddle and be frugal or put the heating on and spend...I want to save but...
I could go down the supermaket and save the taxi fare but now think...s*d it lets take a taxi...
I'm even thinking should I get a bottle of wine and hang the expense...I may buy some better known brands too but I still have that frugal mind, which will be hard to let go of..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Have a bottle of wine for me Pop!
I would go with the spend a little save a little theory, have nice treats and if your feeling tired get the taxi. If your feeling fit and healthy have a little stroll instead.Debt at LBM [strike]£17,544[/strike] £5700:TOver £14,000 PAID OFF :T

How lovely to catch up with the day's good news posts!
*Takes deep breath*
CONGRATULATIONS to Stiltwalker, Mr Pips Mum, Unixgirl, Thriftylass, Mr Possession and Katieowl for all the happy news :j:j:j
And a big BRAVO to PAH for facing down the scary Bigwigs - I hope that some good comes of their visit. I would definitely try and find out what the picture is to be used for though - I am sure you can refuse to have it used in promotional material for the HA.
Popperwell - Don't feel guilty about using money for things you enjoy. Life is for living, and it's not as if you are frittering it all away: you've enough to live on, and a full storecupboard, so why not treat yourself from time to time? It might do you the world of good.
It's been another frenetic day Chez Evie at work and at home. Kitchen and rest of house are still in turmoil (will it ever be finished?!) and work has been busy busy busy. It was DH's last day at work today, although he still doesn't have his redundancy notice in writing - annoying as we can't claim on our mortgage PPI until we can prove he is out of work. There is some sort of silly legal technicality which is too dull to go into here, but which means he won't get formal notification until the end of this week. Hopefully with a calculation of what is due to him and details of when the payment will be made.
I just hope he can find another job soon - it's scary being the only breadwinner (and I'm not winning a lot of bread working part time!) - although on the flipside I think it will be nice for him to spend this time with the girls as they don't get to see as much of their dad as they (and he) would like as he's always worked such long hours.
Hope all is well with everyone else

Thats been the nice part of OH being home too. All being well this new job will start on 13th August so I am hoping we can have a nice couple of weeks "holiday" together as a family as the stress will be off a bit as we know he has something to go to and a few more weeks of my redundancy to see us through.Debt at LBM [strike]£17,544[/strike] £5700:TOver £14,000 PAID OFF :T

Thanks Evie, If I am allowed to spend what I get on anything I like I could go mad and download lots and lots of music off the internet, I better not buy CD's as they take up too much room already and if I do move there will probably not bethe space...I love music...I have four columns of CD's from floor to ceiling. If I do move and cannot store them all(and money is tight perhaps as long as I have them on my pc as mp3 files)I could sell them?
Otherwise a charity shop is going to do well.:)
I'll still use the halogen oven, combi microwave and slow cooker but now will not feel guilty if I do use the electric oven...
What is difficult to understand is I seem to be able to do what I like with the money I am now receiving but if I spent Mum's money when I come into it I have to be more careful so it does not mean I am spending it to be helped un-necessarily. Also if I was working(but I think my health is too poor)if I was working I probably again would be living frugally and be worse off...
I suspect when the changes come you'll be badly off working and badly off if claiming and there won't be much difference.
Of course my calculations could be totally out...may still toddle off to the CAB, don't know what's best..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

unixgirl wonderful news. I am so pleased for you. I did fear your wait could be a very long one.
Pah I sat here with tears running but with laughter not sadness. Girl did you stir them up! I would try to find out about that photo. Blummin cheek not asking you if it was ok and telling you what they were going to do with it.
Well done mr pips mum. It really is a red letter day.0 -
