    Love this. :rotfl:

Going to try a baking soda (is that bicarbonate of soda?) and apple cider vinegar (if I can find it) rinse the next time I wash.

Evie, my aunty used to use talc on her hair, I'm guessing that it would be the same as that babtiste stuff.

    Interesting reading http://www.naturemoms.com/no-shampoo-alternative.html
:) What I've done for a long time is to chuck a cup of ordinary old vinegar (I'll use up leftover pickling vinegar if I have it, otherwise cheapest malt) into a basin of water to rinse my hair, after shampooing and before a smidge of conditioner. I didn't even bother with conditioner until my hair got half way down my back, then it seemed to need a little.

The vinegar is acidic which counteracts the alkaline of the shampoo (I think, science was never my strong suit :o). Anyroad, result is all the shampoo residue gone and beautifully soft hair.

I last had my hair trimmed in December and am only just now noting a little fraying on the ends so may get trim soon.

My other tricks are that I absolutely don't comb my hair until it is completely dry which takes about 5 hours, and only comb it out once a day with a wide-toothed comb. No chemicals, no colours, no faffing. One of the best tricks to managing your hair is to work a style that it'll do naturally with minimum effort and let it get on with it. If you fiddle and fuss with your hair you'll make it greasy.

;) I get a lot of compliments on my mane and the secret is that I do almost nothing to it....... you heard it first from the Low Maintenance Woman.;)

Is Popperwell in the house? I haven't seen him on any thread today. I hope he's OK?

I know, I'm sat as I type with just washed hair. It's difficult but easier for me as I don't work. The sheer thought of turning up to work on day 3 of not washed hair (done day 2 not washed hair, tied up when I'm late :rotfl: ) makes me recoil in horror.

I've read a bit today about not washing your hair at all makes for a naturally healthy, shiny head of hair. When the autumn comes and I begin wearing hats outdoors I'm thinking of giving it ago 1) to save shampoo/conditioner money 2) save of hot water costs as want wash downs more often and 3) for a healthy head of hair.

    Anyone done this?

Yes I went from washing my hair every other day to twice a week and now I can go a whole week if I am particularly under the weather. I do use talcum powder like a dry shampoo if it is particularly bad. It definitely is the way to go but you do have to persevere and put it into a style that does not need daily maintenance.

Fuddle - I bet talc would work just as well (might make you look a bit grey though!) I don't think baking soda and bicarb are exactly the same thing; expect someone will probably be along in a minute to tell the difference! Might try the vinegar thing though (although maybe at a weekend in case I end up smelling of chip shop :rotfl:)

Possession - Yay for yummy jam - boo to not enough jars! I have been known to stash jam in tupperware-type boxes when I've run out of jars. I kept it in the fridge and used it first as I was worried about the lack of a proper seal. Not ideal if there's loads extra though!

I reckon I'm 2.5 jars short so not too bad, am doing what you've done and my monsters can eat it. Right, off to the horror of DD's room so she can go to bed. Eek look at the time, good job its the school hols

Hmm, I am fairly low maintenance (I have long hair as I CBA to have it cut on a regular basis, and it's easier to tie it back neatly for work than faff about in front of a mirror in the mornings). I almost never use a hairdryer (I have one, but it generally gathers dust on top of the wardrobe!) or any products other than ordinary shampoo and conditioner. I comb it through once when damp (towelled dry), and tie it back to dry fully, where it stays until bedtime. And yet in the morning it's monstrously greasy again.

Next time I have a fair chunk of time off work I will try and cut back to washing it every other day and see if the grease subsides as a result.

Thanks GQ well where Supergran has gone before I can only follow - I think this front door is going to open a lot of doors (pun intended) that HA would rather be left shut. I am just not angry now but indignant as in how dare they......................

If I have to pull the poor little :rotfl: in height maybe - woman who is ill and all this stress making her worse I will, never done it as such. With ESA I just stated I felt I did fit descriptors didn't mention how they made me stress.

Hubby wants to go to papers as he feels let down you see we got to vote whether we stayed with council or go to HA and he like most others said move. Me I didn't trust them, even thought we were promised so much ,including new doors and windows for everyone . I also didn't like the fact it left no stock for council to rehome homeless but that is an aside, but I did not vote to move. They said it was a secret ballot but when we were issued new tenancy agreements hubby was down as main tenant and me as extra where as with council it was always me who was main tenant so I reckon they peeked.;)

Well have taken notes of what you said in case this thing does not turn on tomorrow, its never been right since I bought it but although they(currys) will send it away to be fixed they said I would have it gone at least 3 months so I soldier on re-installing windows every month or so, or thumping it - did that a bit to hard earlier:o and flattened spacebar so now its sticking unless I thump it again, but not as hard. Keyboard never been right and if I have battery in, it just stays on hp start up page never coming on no matter how long I now hold the on/off button - which is what helpline told me to do, worked at first. Now I have flattened spacebar I guess I have made it all my fault it never worked.

Hubs has just said call it a day and lets save up and buy another one. I used to be good at saving but past 10years whenever I try something more important comes along before I get what I want.

Maybe I should follow the menu properly on then£7 a week for two - will certainly help with losing lbs and gaining lbs.

Getting a bit better for the first time in years tomorrow I get my next money and I have £12 in cash plus £10 on prepaid credit card and hubby has £5 on his. Usually we are penniless but slowly thanks to all the help here I am building up my stock cupboard, paying my bills and managing:beer:. Mind you only going out shopping once in 8 days helped but when I went on Sunday only bought what I wanted and walked out -me with money in my purse, unheard of, I usually go back in if any left to add to stores but happy with them at about 4 weeks, no room for more.

Had got so used to needing to spend every penny to live I had forgotten you can actually have money left over and have enough in

Well this laptop wrecker is exhusted and going to call it a night she hopes.

Kidcat I hope you can get some R&R you need some

Or you could just shave it off like I do = the ultimate low maintenance hair do! Every fifteen-twenty days I shave it down again. Can go for 10 days without washing it until I suddenly remember that the top of my head also needs washing .....

Unixgirl I hope you were successful at your interview.

Kidcat - pants news about the roof. But if it needs doing it's best to get it done before the winter, I suppose.

PAH your housing association is supposed to have tenants involved in what's called scrutiny. Mine has a tenants' panel and five scrutiny groups looking at different areas such as customer involvement, value for money, neighbourhoods, maintenance and repairs and I can't remember the other one. You could put the willies up them by asking them about their arrangements for tenants to be involved in scrutiny whilst you're at it - they will hopefully then think you know loads and will fit you a new door to shut you up. Then once it's fitted you can carry on raising merry hell for them.

You have to go through their complaints procedure but if still not satisfied you can go to the Housing Ombudsman apparently. http://www.housing-ombudsman.org.uk/default.aspx

Hope that helps. Follow Greyqueen's suggestions too. And if all else fails, offer Supergran a free holiday at yours in exchange for sending her in guns blazing .....

ETA PAH just read what you wrote about them changing the names round on the tenancy. I know nothing about this stuff but that sounds a bit illegal to me. You might want to contact Shelter to ask about that.

Fuddle ( I know you can't get rid of me:o)

I now only wash my hair once a week - used to shower and hair wash daily. Daily shower yes, with hot flushes its a must and mine started when I was in early 40's and although hubs denys it I feel I stink......so at least one short after I get up, whenever that is.

Hairwashing was cut down due to me not being able to raise my arms daily without pain. It was a pain at first, head was itchy, but I had to much pain still to wash it more but slowly as years have gone on that stopped but hair has just got better and better. Its down to waist now and very, very thick, yet all my life until mid 40's I had to keep it short as so fine. For me the less washing the thicker and better it has gone. I wash it with Mr S basics shampoo and use Mr S basics conditioner once a week unless I am going out somewhere special like WI meal last month. Never use a hair dyer and because of the flushes it spends most of its time in a bun. Went to a wedding evening in Jan and this was my hair when I came back from hairdresser - not been there since as trim it myself and so far never had a split end. I do have natural curls but she did add more just with a brush no rollers.[IMG][/img]7679097924_086a6a8d72_t.jpg my hair jan 2012 by prepareathomeearth, on Flickr

Now at my waist - GQ going to pinch that tip about vinegar and see how it goes.. Oh yes I do take it down daily, gets a good brush and back up it goes, a waste of long hair but couldn't manage going to hairdressers often, to achy and cannot be bothered getting one to house still have to sit to long while they fussed with it and not quite at the stage where I want them to pander to me in bed, if I reach the stage even once a week is to painful I will reconsider.

Right will try and go to sleep now. Am all washed teeth brushed and in bed..............but can I stop looking to see if any more posts Nope......its all yours fault(bad english intended)

wow pah your hair is so glossy and healthy! There's videos on youtube about how to sleep in a bun, let it out and you'll have lovely flowing curls. I'll trying when mine is long enough. I cut mine myself too but just recently cut it to a bob length. It's pretty high maintenance at the moment and I do endeavour to have hair mid back length with natural curl at the ends (achieved falsely and I've straight hair)
