Vent: Asda In Store Services

Hi All

Just had to have a moan about my local Asda in Swanley. The store is open 24/7 but the counters (Fish, Pizza etc) are understandably not.

For the last 6 months we've been shopping on Saturday mornings around 8am and get a pizza made up for the kids. So last wee we arrived at 8.20 tried to order our pizza and were told that the counter didn't open until 9am.

After lots of questionning we were told that all counters open 9am - 9pm. When asked why there wasn't a sign we were told that they weren't allowed to put them up as they weren't in Asda green or font.

This evening went in around 8pm - went to order my pizza and was told the counter was closed. Admittedly the lady made up the pizza but spent the whole time telling me that she shuts at 8pm as she has markdowns and clearing up to do

Surely a company the size of Asda can make signs that show opening times and then the staff actually stick to them?

They should. People may make special trips to use some of their services and it should not be pot luck whether they happen to operating them.

That is really daft! Our ASDA pharmacy counter shows their opening times. Thinking about it, the other counters such as the Rotisserie and pizza making counter don't show the opening times.

I usually go to the Pizza counter after work or during the daytime, so have never had an issue with this. The one time though, I went into ASDA and ordered a Pizza as soon as I entered the store, got told 10 minutes, went round and picked up my other bits of shopping, left it as long as I could (am sure it was more than 10 mins). Went back to the counter to see if my Pizza was ready the lady barked at me "no it's not ready yet, I've got 3 other orders in front of you!" Bearing in mind when I was approaching the counter she was just standing there doing sweet FA!

My pet hate is when workers shut earlier than advertised time because the poor souls have to clean up (I'm playing them a tiny violin)

They should be open at the advertised time! I don't shop at Asda, I'm not their biggest fan.

    Quite.

If they need time to clean up then they should advertise an earlier closing time.

I had a pretty massive row with my sister once, she worked in a shop and said to me: 'was nice to see you today. *name of colleague* won't be happy with you though, coming in at 3.30 when she was trying to clean. It's so annoying when customers do that'

I pointed out that the closing time of the shop was 4pm, so why on earth would they be irritated at customers coming in to buy things during opening hours?? She told me that customers should know not to come in near closing time, and to do so is rude because the workers are trying to close up.

    Bizarre reasoning!!!

Put yourself in the shoes of the poor sods working there for a few minutes.

They are expected to work until the very end of their shift AND clean up and often there is not time to clean up while still serving.

Its just like when you go to work yourself and have to startup machines, prepare things for the days work - the law says that you should be paid for this time spent, well the same applies at the end of the day -- if you have to clean up (and remember that this is a food environment) then they should not be expected to do it in their own time so have to stop serving to do it.

(It would be better if there was more staff so someone can serve while someone cleans up - but there are not - they are all short staffed).

Also do you want your food served to you by someone who is getting dirty cleaning up?

I agree that Asda need to have more signs, but no matter how many times the staff ask for them Asda managers and head office refuse them.
