Amazon - item faulty after 30 days

Looking around Amazon's Returns policy tonight (potentially need to return an item, suspect it is faulty but need to insert new batteries to check!) I was surprised to find them saying that I can only return it to them if it is faulty within the first 30 days - after that time, I must contact the manufacturer.
The item should have lasted longer than the three months that it has, typically it would last its owner five-to-ten years. So I feel that the statutory right of "last a reasonable length of time" has been breached.
How does Amazon's return policy fit with the MSE guidance that the contract is made with the Retailer, and that within the first six months, the onus is on the retailer to prove that the item was not faulty when sold? Or doesn't it? How should I approach this?

The 30 day return policy that they give is normally only for change of mind returns.
Send them an e-mail and the chances are that they will send you a link to enable you to print out a prepaid returns label for sending the item back to them.
This is what has happened on the couple of times I have had to return faulty goods.0 -

So what you are saying is you don't know if it is faulty or not?0 -

I found spare bateries after the first post and, yes, it's faulty. Hence why I contacted Amazon, and got a good answer.
I was only wondering why their website tended to force the purchaser back to the manufacturer when MSE guidance says that you should go to the retailer first.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls
