Haven called off camping trip and won't refund

My son and his family had booked, with a large group of friends, to go camping over 3 days this weekend at a Haven site.
They'd paid well in advance, total price being over £250.
Today Haven rang them, saying they would not now be able to camp there due to the weather being so bad that the site was virtually flooded.
So my son asked if Haven would refund their £250. Haven refused, saying it's not their fault the weather's bad.
But if it's them calling the camping trip off, rather than the group deciding not to bother going due to bad weather, surely they should refund?
They have offered another weekend but as this is a 40th birthday celebration for which most people have used up holiday entitlement at work, another weekend's no good to them.
What's the legal position here...does anyone know?

Oh no! I've got a camping holiday booked for 6 nights at golden sands starting next saturday and 3 nights the following week at Thorpe park. We rang golden sands a few days ago as we too are worried about the rain and they said if it gets too bad they'll put us in alternative accomodation or offer us our holiday at a later date (that's no good for us as hubby has already booked his days off for this year). Hope they don't mess us about

Just point them to their own T&C you have spoken to a monkey. Out of interest how many people and could they provide enough statics to cover them all ? £250 for a weekend in the summer at haven tells me 3 or 4 units needed:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Thats disgusting - you should be offered a full refund and I am surprised that you were told that. I would be speaking to someone else. We were camping at Thorpe Park a month ago and I can imagine that they are going to have problems if it keeps raining. The site was very quiet when we were there so people were able to avoid the really wet bits but if it gets full up it will be a different story.0
