Thankyou so much, I feel more positive hearing this. Do you think I will ever be able to get a morgage one day if i get all my debts cleared off in the next few years or have i ruined my chances now?

No, you will be fine. If mortgage companies didn't lend to people who have had debts at one time or another, they would be out of business.

Get the water one on a payment plan ASAP, then post a new thread about how to reduce your debts as quickly as possible. There are loads of experts on that subject here and you will have tons of help.

    Good luck.

Hi guys, just wanted to let you know I sent off an application for a grant from severn trent water fund yesterday. I explained everything about how I got into debt, long shot but maybe they will help pay some of my water bill off. Also spent Sunday night going over finances with hubby and writing out or incomings and outgoings and what we can pay to who. Feeling so much better already knowing i'm trying to sort things, even if they aren't quite sorted yet :). Thanks everyone for all your hepful comments and not judging me. I think that was the most scary part, what would people say and think :o

  • Hi guys, me again. Just wanted to thank everyone who gave me advice and update on my situation.

So I rang the water fund people and applied for a grant, I wrote everything down on the application form about my situation and how I got into it. A few weeks later I got a call asking if i'd like to be put through to their new debt advisor which they recommended and said it would strengthen my aplication, I agreed. I was very nervous but I needn't have been, he was great, didn't judge me at all. He took all my incomings and outgoings and separated them into priority and non priority debts. He also applied to experian for my credit report and to my suprise there is only 1 debt on there that isn't in good order and thats a catalogue debt for £400 from 2007 (i'm not sure this is right as the water debt isn't even on there so I probably have more that aren't showing up with experian). Anyway i'm in alot less debt than I thought and even though my credit score is very poor (444 last time I checked) I can now see a light at the end of the tunnel and a way forward to building it up.

As for the water debt, i rant the trust fund today to see whats what and they said its actually being processed today and I should hear by the en of the week whether or not i've been successful in getting a grant. Worse case scenario they will set up a payment plan for me which i'll be happy with because it means nomore worrying and nomore getting paranoid everytime the door knocks or phone rings. The relief is immense.

Thankyou so much for the support and encouragement everyone gave, I really wouldn't have been able to do it without you. I feel so relieved and as silly as it sounds.....so grown up :)

Will update when I hear back from the water fund to let you know if I've been awarded a grant or not
  • The water debt won't be on your credit report as basic utilities aren't shown i.e. gas, water, electric. It might have shown if you'd defaulted and it was passed to a debt collector. However, you don't have to worry about this now as you're getting it all sorted :-)

Well done on overcoming your worries (no small thing to do) and starting the process of getting sorted.

That is great news, I am pleased you managed to get the courage up to ring, and now you are on your way to getting it paid off, which is so far along the road from your first post, where you were frightned the sky was going to fall in.

Everyone on here at one point or another has felt what you were feeling, and we all try to offer support when it is asked for.

Well done and come back once you know you have got the grant.
:) Been here for a long time and don't often post
