Washing machine shaking like crazy!

i'd say it was a problem with the springs as well, but just a thought have the transit bolts been removed ? open the door with nothing in it put your hand in & see if you can move the drum if it's solid i'd say the bolts are still in it from new or when the work was carried out on it.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Mine used to jump around the kitchen all the time, till it finally conked out:eek::eek:.The engineer said if i'd rung him, as soon as it started doing it it could've been saved:(:(
Oh and ours also used to bang/knock quite loudly whilst it was jumping around the kitchen during a spin. Does yours make any knocking noises at the same time?0 -
I'm currently having to hand wash while waiting for an engineer to come out Wednesday as my washing machine's been doing exactly the same - fine on the synthetic cycles that are done at slower speeds, noisy as heck and shuffling forwards a bit on the cotton cycles that are done at faster speeds. Till Thursday when it decided to dance halfway across the kitchen floor
.
My mum says it's the bearings, which I suspect the engineer will replace (or say 'Ah, yes, its the bearings but I don't have what I need on the van, I'll come back a week next Friday' like the last one did), but I do think it's related to the transit bolts.
When we bought the machine, then-DH & I had never put in a washing machine so paid the extra to have it fitted. Then delivery man came out, told us to make sure we took out the transit bolts, we said 'But you're fitting it', so he did, gave it a quick check & left without removing the transit bolts. Running a machine with the transit bolts left in can cause holes in your kitchen flooring. Only did half a cycle as we realised it wasn't right & the shop sent someone else out who sorted it. SO, I don't know if that would have caused lingering damage, but I always suspect it.
purplestar133, I appreciate your landlord is getting fed up with paying out for a washing machine he doesn't use, but it's part of what you rent from him. And if he had any sense, he'd have cover for it through Domestic & General or another company, or rent the washing machine in the first place so he didn't have to worry about repairs other than making the phone calls. He's trying to do this a bit on the cheap side of not paying out & I can understand why, because I keep thinking '£122 a year for washing machine cover, what better uses I could put that to'. But I don't have any friends or family who can fix washing machine for beer so it is worth it to know I just make a phone call & the engineer turns up & fixes it & I don't have to wait till I get paid to call him. Been there, done that!0 -
Thanks for all the replies. I suppose the problem now is getting my landlord to believe me when I say 'the problem is not the floor!'. He's a nice man, and god knows he's put up with a lot of pestering from me about fixing things, but I suppose he's a bit old fashioned and he sometimes thinks he knows better than me. I'm 'just a girl' after all
The good thing is he lives next door...so he can't really avoid me like other landlords mightHaving said that I haven't been able to catch up with him yet this week and I can't stop worrying until this is fixed

Well, I can turn the drum round. Do you mean try and bounce it? If it's solid I need to remove the transit bolts?0 -
if it has been washing for sometime I would be surprised if it is the transit bolts.
They are there to keep the drum rigid whilst being shipped. Otherwise with all the counterweights bouncing around uncontrolled it would damage the machine in transit. Just shifting around your floor to repair it wouldn't need them IMO.
If it was the bearings I would expect it to be very noisy when rotating and making a moaning/grinding noise."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

That happened with my last machine.
Taking the cover off, at the top of the machine were shaped concrete blocks.
Where the bolts went through them the concrete had completely sheared in a straight line, so I was able to use heavyweight glue to bond it back together.
It dodn't last for ever though, and when it got to the point that I was rebonding every couple of washes I got rid of it.
This was years ago though before it even entered my head to buy new blocks instead of a new machine.
It's unlikely to be the bearings.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Ok, so it sounds like it's related to the springs and counter balance weights.
Looks like I might have to fall out with my friendly neighbour who's also my landlord if he doesn't do anything about it this time. How dare he have a weekend away when I'm left here fretting about this??!!;)0 -
lol!!!I think I might have wasted my breath!!!:rotfl::rotfl:"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"
