I have a microsoft optical mouse and the cursor has started to jump suddenly down the page by a dozen or so lines (whether I am using the mouse at the time or not) I cannot find any reason for this and it is driving me mad! Help someone please?

Unplug the mouse, blow the connector to get rid of any dust, and re-plug.
Might fix it.0 -

It's a cordless mouse and I'm using it on a mouse mat - smooth as a billiard table -. The cursor also jumps down when I'm typing and not touching the mouse, but only if I'm editing (say) and there is text to jump down to. When simply typing it has nowhere to go.0
