AA Membership Renewal

I heard Martin Lewis on Radio 2 a couple of weeks ago stating that AA was one of the best companies to negotiate with at renewal time.

My renewal documents came through this morning with an increase of £20 on last year. Also when I joined I got £20 through a cashback website.

So I phoned them up and told them I was leaving and after a little negotiation then gave me a £49 discount, making it £10 cheaper than last year.

My RAC renewal came through, and as a 30 year plus member was £20 more than than a brand new customer...I called them up, they knocked the 20 quid off, and put my son on there for free...don't ask, don't get....

the way both AA and RAC treat renewals is a joke
my RAC renewal last year was £120. I pointed out that as a new customer of the AA they would charge me £80 for the same cover. The RAC counter offered me a revised renewal of £89.... I joined the AA
the next year the same thing happended in the reverse direction - rewards for loyalty is not how either of them operate anymore
