HELP- door broken on Hotpoint washer

Hi
I've got a Hotpoint WMUD962 Ultima and the door catch is broken!:(
Despite the obvious of unplugging/plugging in again and running another cycle/spin, it just will not open.
I've tried taking off the top and tried to release the catch using a piece of strimmer wire but to no avail.
I'm tearing my hair out as I've got washing stuck inside just looking at me
If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated as I can't afford a call out.
