Balance Transfer from Barclaycard Platinum

Hi

I have just opened a Tesco Clubcard Credit card with the intention of transferring an outstanding balance from my Barclaycard platinum to it to make use of a new interest free period.

The balance transfer was all going well until I told the Tesco advisor the number of my Barclaycard and she told me it was not on their system. This means I cant transfer the outstanding balance on my Barclaycard to Tesco due to a file of card numbers not being available to Tesco's system yet. She couldn't tell me when it was going to be in their system but she did say it will be one day!

Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you manage to get the transfer done, if you please let me know. Tesco did advise me to contact Barclaycard for them to issue an alternative account number, that is in Tesco's system, but Barclaycard's advisor couldn't help me (she didnt really understand what I wanted!). Maybe a trip to the Highstreet branch is in order.

You're unlikely to get anywhere until Tesco's update their system with the BIN range for your card. I doubt going in store with Tesco's will help and I'd be surprised if Barclays will do anything, especially as it looks like youll be leaving them or at least taking your balance away

Many thanks for coming back to me. I tried to do it via my online account and low and behold it worked! either the CSC advisor didnt know what she was on about or amazingly they updated their system within a week. Whatever it was I can confirm you can transfer from the Barclaycard to Tesco credit card.

I presume it was an ex-Egg Barclaycard?

As reported here many times, these cards continued to be rejected by many retailers many months after they came live to replace the egg cards.

I had the same problem and managed to use the old egg card number successfully, but that was just a few months after go-live. I presume that if you tried it now, it would fail (or worse -it would disappear into a holding account to reappear later after months of chasing)
