Register a new car now or wait until September?
I ordered a brand new car back in February, but due to manufacturer delays it's only just been built and will be available at the end of July to pick up.
My question is whether there's any benefit in waiting an extra month for the new registration plates in September? I don't care about the plate per se, but if it was going to have a big effect on the car's depreciation that would be important.
I guess this boils down to: when you're buying a second hand car, is the month & year of registration or the registration plate more important in determining the price?
(I hope) I'm not likely to want to sell the car for maybe 3-5 years.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Doesn't seem to make much of a difference, what car is it?0

If you have a choice and they're not giving you a discount, wait for the new plate.0

Now there is 2 plate changes a year it makes little difference.
In reality the dealer is unlikely to want to hold it in stock that long as he will be paying for it now.
Would you be prepared to pay an increase in price if the prices went up between now and September?0 -

The dealer appears happy to honour the original price we agreed on with the month's delay. (We've also put down a sizeable deposit, so I'd like to believe they wouldn't sell it on in the meantime.)0

You must have agreed a right handsome purchase price if the dealer is prepared to store the car for you for over a month and is willing to not get paid until delivery.0 -
Most deals run quarterly, this quarter finishes end of September so unless there's a specific July only offer they'll be happy (unless the salesperson finishes one short of his July target!!) to do the deal for September.0

Is your deposit safe if the dealer goes belly up in the meantime?
If so then i would leave registration too.0
