Perhaps I'm being over simplistic but it may be worth a shot.

Our 2 year old lab has only ever had a couple of 'accidents' since he moved in with us at 3 months old. I was told by an old school dog owner that dogs don't like to 'dirty' areas that they play in. We play with him in all rooms in the house (except the kitchen and upstairs because these areas are off limits to him), the patio area and the lawn. He NEVER pees or poops in these areas. We have a small gravelled area to one side of the garden and NEVER play with him there. He always pees and poops in this aea.

    Works for us.

Just wanted to chip in and say 6 months isn't that old, especially if he's not had a lot of training and the previous owner was telling porkies.
Once any physical problem has been ruled out and you can start retraining it is sortable, it just takes time and effort
Just as an example mutt was aged 1-2 when I got her and widdled and poohed for England all over the house. Started by taking her out for a short walk every hour and staying out until she did something. Took nearly 12 months but we got there in the end and she can now go for hours without needing to go out. I don't know if you leave the door open for him to go in and out of the garden, but I don't think that helps - if they can wander out any time, they don't learn they need to hold it.
    Good luck with it all.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

what exactly does housetrained mean anyway?
does it mean the pup knows outside is where he should go? it does in my opinion! does it mean at 6months old he can/will hold it for hours cos nobody is there to let him out? nope he has no chance of doing that no matter how much he wants to!
why hes going wherever and whenever again....i expect he is confused with the move. he no doubt wants to be good but he cant get outside to be clean cos hes alone and locked in the bathroom. puppy pads used to be the place but hes possibly already been trained away from those so he doesnt want to use those either.
he needs to go back to basics , going out on the hour every hour and rewarded for getting it right. when you arent home so he cannot get it right cos you left him dont react to accidents jjust remove him then clean up.
youv said one night when realy tired he slept through.... perhaps more exercise would help tire him out. hes still a baby he needs mental stimulation to tire him not just a walk and hes not getting that left home alone all that time.
no dog can be reliably housetrained by 6mths, at least not to hold it in when left for several hours.

Never worked out why people think that by inventing a cute name for a cross means it's now a breed. I am afraid people are sadly doing this just to try and sell them for extortionate amounts of money. Some of these crosses are going for money than purebbred pedigree dogs of good lines and breeding that have been health checked etc.

It's a shame people are pulled in by cute names.

And I've never worked out why some folk get so sniffy about what other people choose to call their dogs. Remember, all pedigree breeds were cross breeds at some point in the past. There's no reason to think they're inherently superior to a cross breed. I say this as the owner of a pedigree dog by the way.

Some of these crosses are more expensive than "purebred pedigree dogs" but maybe that's because people are realising that a crossbreed may well be a more sensible choice nowadays due to the scandalous amount of pedigree in-breeding.

Hi, this is my first dog but my husband has had lots of dogs.

He is left 6-7 hours, we have resorted to the bathroom because it's hte only place in our house which has a 'wipe-clean' floor per se. We did have him roaming the bathroom and the landing and downstairs hallway but he pooed everywhere.

He has full run of a large garden all the time when we are at home, and my husband takes him out for 30 mins to 1 hr a day.

Puppy pads because the woman gave them to us and we put them by the door to the back garden to encourage him to go out there or to show him where (on advice given, so not sure that's the right thing)

Again locked in bathroom at night because only wipe clean floor. He will have the second bedroom when we can make sure he won't soil the carpet so bad.

A Pugalier is a pug x king charles cavalier :)

As others have said, 6 - 7 hours is far too long to leave a puppy even if it's not every day.

Toilet training takes time and patience. You need to teach him where it is okay to toilet. He is not going to pick it up if he is shut in the bathroom most of the day when no one is home and also at night.

I have never heard of a Pugalier until I seen one at the vets a few month ago. The dog I seen looked a lot like my King Charles Spaniel I lost last August so I asked the lady if he was a King Charles. She said no he's Pugalier. After she said that I could see the Pug in the dog too but more KCS.

I thought crossbreeds would be prone to more health problems than purebreeds but the Vet on reception told us that Pugaliers are less prone to all the health problems than a purebreed Pug or King Charles Spaniel as they are breeding out the short muzzle etc. So maybe this is one of the reasons why crossbreeds sell for a lot more?
Oh - another though, have you got a crate for him?

NOT to leave him there for hours on end but to use it for toilet training only

I second this (although I have never crate trained mine), it would be a much better and easier option than locking him in the bathroom all night and when not at home.
A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.

Welcome! :) Agree with the others, first port of call is the vet - ASAP because certain urinary conditions can become serious quickly. Healthy urine is not yellow it is very pale straw, if the urine is yellow the dog may be dehydrated, which is higher risk for a water infection. Consider slowly switching to a wet food or a mixed wet-dry diet. Secondly six months is too young to be left for seven to eight hours especially for a 'bonding' type breed, either get a neighbour to walk him at lunchtime or employ a proper dog walker. Bear in mind you are also leaving him alone for eight hours at night - that is sixteen hours some days.

Allowing your dog to toilet inside sometimes (puppy pads) is confusing, pets need consistency and clear boundaries. Unfortunately this can mean you standing in the rain for half an hour last thing at night until your pup goes to the toilet, or getting up at 2am for a toilet break just as you do with human children.
