Can't contact EGG or Goldfish?

Hi, we've been trying to get in touch with EGG and Goldfish but as they have now been taken over by Barclaycard we cannot get any information. EGG and Goldfish just refer us back to Barclaycard but Barclaycard say they don't have our details and say we need to contact EGG and Goldfish! Anyone else had this or been successful in getting their information from these ex-companies? Ta :)

Egg - i got mine done before the transfer luckily.

I do have a goldfish card though, from 1998 no less, and with a £10 SAR request sent into Barclaycard, they got me all the details on the account from the very beginning. So they do have the info, but they'll mess you around until you send in a SAR request to their data protection dept.
  • Hi,
Im quite new to all of this and have had the same problem with Goldfish/Barclaycard claiming I never existed! What is a SAR request and please could you tell me how I go about doing one of those?
    Thank you in advance! :-)

You write a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter to Barclaycard, it costs £10 and will return all information they have on you for at least six years and (sometimes) more. Be sure to inform them that yours was a Goldfish account.

There is a fine template letter which you can adapt for your own use here:

  • Brilliant - thank you! :-)
I've just posted the letter so will now be keeping my fingers crossed!

If I had both egg and goldfish would I send £10 or £20 to Barclaycard with the SAR letter?

If the accounts were both open when Barclays took them on, one will do

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
