Am I entitled to a refund! Halfords MOT

Hi guys
Just looking for some advice. I booked my vehicle in for an MOT with Halfords autocentres using their online booking system. I was then told to print my confirmation, which detailed the date and time of my appointment. However, I received a call late the next day, saying that they had received my booking, but unfortunately they could not fit me in.
The gentleman left a voice mail, asking me to phone him back to either re-arrange the appointment or to book me in at another test centre. This was inconvenient as my car has been off the road for roughly a year, so it has no tax or MOT. This means I have to go to a pre-booked MOT test within a reasonable distance, which the next Halfords test centre is too far.
Luckily I found a local garage that could fit me in, but can I request a refund from Halfords as they have failed to keep to the agreed date of my appointment?
Any info would be great
Thanks

Yes, ask for a refund explaining you had to go elsewhere. Have they actually 'taken' the money?0

You offered them £x for a service on y date and time. They rejected this. You are therefore entitled to your money returned.
I can't imagine them saying no tbh.0 -
I'd say so - sounds like a straight breach of contract to me if you were told a certain time/date. Are there any T's and C's on their website for them to try to wriggle out of it?0

Here you go:-

Do you think they will still refund me though? Because they haven't carried out the test.0

Not being funny but why don't you ask them? After checking you have actually paid already, and not had an automatic refund.
If they say no, ask why then come back and we'll put our heads together.0 -

There is no distance restriction, reasonable or otherwise, specified in the legislation.
'The next Halfords test centre', or any other test centre in the country, is ok as long as it is pre-booked.
OK, it may be more inconvenient for you, but that is a different matter.0 -
No it doesn't.

The further you travel though does increase the chances of you being stopped and the car being found to be possibly unroadworthy.0 -
