If it makes you feel a little bit better OP I could have paid my whole mortgage of in 1996 with my LLOY shares. Now they would just about cover a years payments :(
  • Dont know why you are wasting time worrying about £60 worth shares, even if they double u get £120 minus fees.

pennies make pounds. 120 doesnt matter except when you dont have it
That makes PERFECT sense. Thank you.

I'm only upset for my husband as they were bought as a 13th birthday present by a family member who is no longer here. So just for sentimental reasons really!

I think Mark is correct. You had bad debts and this now is a positive to suggest to save money in some shape or form is a good idea for avoiding future problems.
I wouldnt suggest holding a large amount of just one share but this is a fair start and its symbolic if anything. Switch over to a unit trust later which is far safer and continue the idea

An offer of 50 means you can always change your mind and sell and not lose anything. I think the 40 to 80 idea was feasible, the shares are able to pay a dividend and could see a rise if seen as more consistent going forward.
They are the largest uk bank now and one advert alone doesnt matter but general perception probably does
