Hard Drive Partition question (not a 'how to' request!)

Hi There
After a bit advice in regarding to partitioning a hard drive
I just got a new computer with a 1TB HDD, now before I used to always do a partition and have a 'media' drive to put photos, music and docs. This way they are safe if I need to do a reinstall of windows. However lately I have been making regular backups of my media stuff onto an external drive so don't feel they need to be saved on a separate partition.
Question is, if I load everything onto the single partition, windows, programs, media etc... would I notice a significant performance difference what with the hard disk being so full up?
Any recommendations on how you guys partition discs?
Thanks!

I tend to use a "system" partition of about 120 GB and the remainder as a "data" partition. I'm not sure about the performance aspects, but it certainly helps keep things distinct for backups and so-on.0

it shouldn't make much difference in performance its just their for easy use !, remember if you make a partition it still using one drive ! ,
now if you had two separate drives it would be better than partitioningCash Genie - [STRIKE]£385[/STRIKE] --- £322.50 ---£0:j

Best keeping the system and data separate - makes maintenance easier - eg if you ever need to re-install Windows you don't have to worry about your data. Also time saving on these very large disks, so that instead of hours to clean-up, you can attend in smaller time chunks etc.0

Yup - that's my thinking too.Best keeping the system and data separate - makes maintenance easier - eg if you ever need to re-install Windows you don't have to worry about your data. It won't make any real difference so don't do it....Question is, if I load everything onto the single partition, windows, programs, media etc... would I notice a significant performance difference what with the hard disk being so full up?

There are advantages, as posted above, to having seperate partitions for system software and data and no disadvantages that I know of. It only takes a few seconds to create the partitions.
My opinion. Some may disagree.0
