Do we both need to be there for completion?

Have the feeling this might be a slightly dumb question but us ftb's are just full of them! I'm buying a house with my OH - do we both need to available on the completion date to collect keys (or anything else)? We're aiming for 1st or 8th August but the back up date is 15th August and I'll be away at a tutorial, so wondering if my OH could collect the keys alone... or alternatively, if we could collect the keys two days later?

I'm guessing to answer to this question is no (what about if one of you had to stay with the van and all your belongings?)... but just want to check!

To note: I won't be leaving him to do all the moving alone, we're in rented at the moment so will probably look to move sometimes in the week following completion depending when we can book professional movers or get help from friends.

Either of you can collect the keys. It doesn't matter, you can get a family member to collect them if you want. Just let the agent know and tell the person collecting that they will need to take in ID.

Fantastic! I'd probably ask whoever collects the keys to pop by the house and give it a quick check over too :)

Make sure you take meter readings on the day you complete if you're not moving in right away.

Doesn't hurt to snap a picture of the meters (showing the opening readings) on your phone if you can.

Thread here showing what can happen if you don't read the meters when you move in:
