Invalidating car insurance?

I have a scenario that i would like some advice on..
i currently hold a full license and have done since september last year although my partner who is only a learner has the car registered in his name with the dvla etc and so i find most insurers will only quote me with him as the main policy holder and me as a named driver. This bumps our insurance up LOADS as the main driver has to be him and hes a learner.. i drive everywhere and he barely touches it think last year was the last time he was sat in the drivers seat and i just wondered would it invalidate my insurance to say that i was the main owner of the car despite the fact only he is on the registration documents as you cannot put two names or joint ownership on there... any way i can reduce my insurance at all really as i dont see my partner passing his test any time soon as hes not taking lessons and id hate for our insurance to stay as it is.
