Hi,

I'm into foraging and had a fun afternoon. I came across 3 trees that I do not recognise and that are not on the sites at I have been searching. I'm hoping that some one could help out?

I'm also hoping that one might be edible in some way;)

Mystery tree no 1:

1 is Spindle, brain fade on the others.

I think the second tree is dogwood - not sure about the 3rd one though.

The spindle is known as the wild service tree? I know the berries can be eaten as there is a information board in a ancient local wood, that says people used to eat them. Quite how palatable today they would be, I don't know.

I'm pretty sure they are spindle dogwood and midlands thorn.

The spindle isn't edible sadly! :(
The wild service tree is once the fruit has bletted. I'd love to find one of those:j

  • 1 spindle - got one in very old hedge in my garden - good autumn colour but never tried eating or making wine with it!
    3 looks like guelder rose

I don't think the second one is a dogwood :(
I'd be ecstatic if so as the fruit is edible apparently after a quick google.
All the fruits I've seen on the web look like this though:images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRlUr9Q8OXO55mbqs1KGCDbYH36Hw6gjs6h7qmXhGV4UIRWls9y8A

Are there different varieties of the tree?

Can anyone find a picture of the midlands thorn?

I want to check it out but can't find it on the web? :(

Ahh, right sorry for the misinformation. I know there are some in a wood close to me, but I always forget to look for them while I'm there :rotfl:

What are you foraging for atm btw?
