Hi everyone,
I bought a new Sony laptop on ebay and want to register it for Warranty, but there is a question on the registration page asking where I bought the laptop(PC World, Comet, etc), so what's best to write there? And in case I need it repaired do I just show them receipt from paypal? Thanks!

Hi This is always a problem buying new stuff off ebay from an unknown/unrecognised entity. You have no idea how he/she came about them.
The most constructive answer I can give is to call the seller and ask him/her - you can request his number from ebay - call them as per the following: http://ocs.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ContactCS&ref=1&topicrelid=5007630130&sid=5271299571&convId=0&ContactCsResultsPage=true
The problem might be, if he has sold stock which is not straight, by entering the serial number on the warranty form, there may be a risk, if the seller's info is questionable (or can't produce a receipt), that you may loose the laptop without compensation (eg stolen); there is one redeaming factor, if you do this within 40 days and find the laptop is confiscated, that the Paypal should refund you, but I stress this must be done within 40 days. be careful as the seller may employ delaying tactics if he/she is not straight.
Really hope it works out for you.0 -
At a guess, his mobile number is: 07572608867How do I add a signature?0 -
I spoke to the seller on the day I bought the laptop and picked it up from him, he said he would post me the receipt, which he still did not post.
The link for the laptop I bought is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230817357284&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:GB:3160
He offered 3 years warranty- 1 year from Sony and 2 from him, he sells computers at the computer fair in Stratford(London) every weekend(according to him, but I actually never went there).
To be honest the laptop looks great(but the keyboard is French) and I don't expect it to fail any time soon, but still for the peace of mind still wanted to register it with Sony. What does it normally have to say on the receipt to be accepted by Sony( of course provided the laptop wasn't reported stolen)?
He also mentioned he was buying these laptops from Birmingham, and I found similar listing http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SONY-VAIO-LAPTOP-Intel-Core-i3-2350-VPCEJ3N1E-B-/330758965240?pt=UK_Computing_Laptops_EH&hash=item4d02c547f80
