Motor Insurance - what do I need?

Having obtained a quote there then follows the 'add-ons'. Do I need 'Personal Accident Insurance' or 'Legal Protection'? What exactly do they offer and am I already covered by some other policy I have?

Deep down I can't help thinking its another PPI, selling stuff I don't actually need. Or are they actually a good thing?

Cheers

Legal protection will get you cover in the event of any claim. He you have a collision and the police want to interview you, would you trust a duty brief?

Legal protection is the only useful add on to a car policy but check that you don't already have it on your home insurance.

Home insurance legal protection often excludes anything to do with motoring, so it doesn't replace motor legal cover.

    Any reason?

Ok I've not renewed with them (price hike) but when I changed my plate midway through the policy they didn't charge me. Endsleigh on the other hand wanted £25. Decent enough service on that front.

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

I agree legal protection is the best of the 'add-ons', its always useful to have should something unexpected happen and you need to some legal advice. However you ucan often get it cheaper than what the insurance company offer, me and my wife are with Swift Cover and they offered us both legal protection as an 'add-on' for £30 each, so £60 total. In the end I got a joint legal protection policy from the RAC for £25. http://www.rac.co.uk/accident-legal/

The other 'add-ons' Swift offered were, courtesy car, personal accident, lost keys insurance, and wrong fuel insurance. We already have personal accident cover via my employer so no neeed for that and we didn't feel the others were of value to us.
