Paul mentioned this in post 2 in this thread and in a later post I posted the details of all tunnel/bridge concessions and how to get them here . Any chance we could encourage folk to read the thread before posting?

I agree Ted, also there is a lot of information under FAQ's which is a sticky at the top of this board, including info about the bridges and heating etc.

A sticky is a topic that is pinned to the top of each forum, It stays at the top of the forum as it has useful information in the thread.

If you look at the first few topics on any forum you will see a blue drawing pin type icon next to the topic title....That is a sticky.
  • Hi Folks, I am new to forums and would be greatful for any advice.
My husband had a stroke in January 2008. I applied immediately for DLA. We were refused so I appealed. We were refused again so I asked for an oral hearing. I have recently been sent all the paper work including a form sent to our GP. I was shocked to see that at about three weeks after his stroke the doctor had declined to fill in any of the questions and just put D/K which I assume means dont know. I went to another doctor recently who wrote a letter stating that my husband has mobility and memory problems also depression.
He has said that he considers it will take at least a year for him to recover if ever. I have since had a letter back from the Benifits agency saying they consider he still does not qualify for high mobility and middle care.
What I cant understand is I didnt ask for those rates, who decided what the rates were that were being refused. Even the lower rate would have helped his recovery. We have been living on £85 per week as we had to get a budgeting loan to tax the car, its a nightmare. He worked on site and had not paid enough stamps to qualify for incapacity benifit so we have to wait a year. They have said they cannot consider our financial situation but I am sure this has added to his depression.
    Any advice please?

Lodge an appeal regarding your husband's claim for DLA. Your local CAB will help with the form and guide you. Good luck!

You say you applied immediately, you can't apply for DLA until the condition/disability has been present for 3 months. Even if there has been a loss of limb!
I think you may have to apply again.
