Hello a few of us MSE'rs are going to Lake Balaton in May for a week.
I was just wondering if anybody had been there before and could offer any tips for where to go, where to eat, places not to miss etc!
I have a few guide books but the more knowledge the better I say!
Also if anyone knows the best value car hire.
Thanks in advance!
(I am doing my own research as well)

hi
I went to lake balaton in the summer of 2005 as part of a trip round europe.
I can definately recommend it - its a lovely place. Hungary is actually a very hot place - we went in june/july and it was absolutely melting. The lake itself is very warm and great for swimming in!
There is lots of grassy bits to sit around on and sunbath - im not sure if they had a man made beach bit - i think they probably did.
We flew to budapest and got the train to balaton - very painless experience.
We stayed at a campsite - cant remember the name but approx 15 euro a night for two.
Lots of restuarants and very cheap.
Have a good time!0 -

hello
OH and I are also considering Hungary for May, do you have any websites/tips/info that you can post or PM me?
We had considered staying in a villa in a resort (the long Hungarian name escapes me) but i think the resort is a sort of Centerparcs style with a few shops, tennis courts, beach (i didn't realise it might be man-made?) etc and importantly its own train station. we were going to take a few nights in the middle and go on the train to visit Budapest, and come back and stay the rest of the time in in the villa.
Haven't done much research so any tips would be useful. Like how do you get around from the cheap airport? (i think it is served by Easyjest, all I do know is its £40 return :j ) and did you look into renting a car?
Thanks if any one can give us any help, and VERY pleased to hear it is quite a hot country (i don't even know where it is..i'm rubbish at this research malarky)
Ktwhy be a song, when you can be a symphony?0
