How do I stop getting automated calls on my phone with recorded messages

Please help, i get 3-4 of those recorded calls every single work day for some months now and they really are getting on my nerves.
How do i stop them without it costing me anything, I was just about to sign up to a registery thing but it would have cost me £39 for the year .

This is for my home phone.

I get several calls a day from 01254368742 which according to google is something to do with PPI. I don't answer numbers I don't know. I registered a few weeks ago with TPS which is free. The calls stopped for a while and have only had a couple recently. Should probably answer and tell them I'm on TPS but never mind...!! I've a nice ring tone

No way to do it effectively for free - unless all your callers pay attention to the TPS list, and not all of them do. You could change your number, but that simply changes your position on the Monopoly board, it may be better (or worse!). All the rest get a Truecall, and mine just got rid of 14 calls from Express Loans today, and I've never been a customer of theirs!
