Unsolicited debit cards from Barclay?

DH and I have just each received a contactless debit card from Barclays - out of the blue.

We don't bank or have accounts with them at all although our mortgage which is with Standard Life is being taken over by them later this month.

Any ideas?

Sorry, title should read 'Barclays'

I wouldnt have thought the cards would be linked to the mortgage. Maybe ask barclays.

I may well call them later although I do try and avoid 'phoning banks - I tend to lose the will to live. :(

  • Received 2 pin numbers this morning for contactless debit cards from Barclays. We have never banked with them but our mortgage is also being transferred from Standard Life to Barclays (T/A Woolwich). I'm pretty sure Woolwich used to have mortgages connected to a current account - my sister had an account of this type.

I've no recollection from earlier correspondence of any mention of this type of account being opened automatically on the transfer of our mortgage, but given the major ongoing problems with Ulster Bank(!) where we have our main current accounts I'm wondering if it might be one we would want to consider. Has anyone any experience of banking with Barclays in Northern Ireland given that we always end up at the bottom of the pile if there are issues with anything!

I really don't want to jump from the frying pan into the fire - Barclays bosses haven't exactly got a clean copybook either...any advice?

Ah we're not alone then! I think we'll just ignore the cards, although saying that, we currently bank with Santander ()

    'Nuff said. :(

We also received pin numbers this morning from Barclays.

Our Standard Life mortgage is being changed to a Woolwich Open Plan Flexible Offset mortgage. This mortgage comes with a current account with cheque book and debit card.

I don't intend to use the current account, but if it makes it quicker to access the offset savings then it may come in handy.

    You answered your own question.
You will get a current account with your mortgage that may allow you to borrow against your mortgage.
