Insurance for garage

Hi

We are completing the sale on a garage tomorrow separate from our house. The insurance Company Liverpool Victoria Insurance who I have my buildings and contents with won't insure it . The garage is one of many less than 3 minutes walk from our home. Has anyone else come across this?
Someone from the complaints department is calling me tomorrow but she was only able to give me his first name - company policy not to give out last names. I find this so ridiculous.

A note to say how helpful I find all of this site.

Kind regards

LV should cover the garage, if is noted on the deeds for your house and also with land registry. If the garage is totally separate from a legal point of view, they won't.

If the garage is part of your house legally, then just phone any other company on the market and subject to you meeting all the relevant requirements, you will be able to obtain a policy that meets your needs. To save you time, just phone a local broker.

Seen an issue like this on the TV. Guy claimed for a trailer stolen off his drive.

They used google to show he didnt have a garage or drive attached to the house.

Investigator went round and guy pointed to his car parked in front of his garage over the road.
Thats my garage and thats my drive.

    They never paid out.

Think I saw the TV programme referred to. I thought that the trailer was not a Home Insurance issue any way, but connected to the cover for the trailer. If the trailer could not be safeguarded by the policyholder in a reasonable way, because it was parked across the road, the Insurers were correct not to pay out. The OP was asking about Home Insurance for a separate garage, which is totally different to the issue on the TV programme.

But the op has said it's a garage sale separate to his house, so won't be on the house deeds.

So far I am unable to find any insurance for this end terraced, brick built garage with a flat roof! One of the insurance brokers I have spoken with has had the same issue with 3 other cases in recent weeks and was unable to come up with anything.

Any ideas are very gratefully received.

Many thanks huckster :T. I tried both these companies this morning and they don't insure garages either. Really at a loss as to where to go from here.

Any suggestions anyone has will be gratefully received and followed up!

Other than those you've tried, I can only suggest you ask the current owner what they do for insurance. Or ask the owners of the neighbouring garages.

Sounds like the same issue to me, The garage is not attached to the house so was not covered under the home contents.
They had loaded the trailer up to go fishing i think.

The only refusal i remember was because what he classed as his driveway, They didnt.

Apparantly thr driveway should be attached to the property. Even though there was no mention of this in the policy.

So the OP needs to double check before taking out a policy.
