Setting up and Tuning TV

I last did this before the digital switchover in April. At that time it was all tuned in.
I have a tube TV (Grundig), an echostar freeview box T-101 FTA and a Digitop SLX aerial.
I have followed the instructions and set it up as prescribed, but no luck.
When I turn the freeview box on the TV screen goes blank apart from the letters AV (I press the AV/O on the TV remote and there is no change).
When I free the buttons (i.e. menu or guide) on the freeview remote nothing happens. I have run auto tune on TV and moved aerial around with no luck of catching any channels.
Just wondered if there is a set way to tune these items together rather than spending on a new tv
thanks for reading.

First things first - is the set top box connected to the TV via SCART? Have you checked this lead isn't loose? Are you sure you're selecting the correct AV channel? Try going through them all. There's no reason this equipment shouldn't work together now, if it did in April, other than something has broken. Is the box responding to your remote control presses (a light flashing or something?) maybe it needs new batteries.0

Autotune on the TV won't make any difference if the box is connected to the AV input (via SCART?)
The fact that the TV shows AV when you switch the digibox on indicates that the AV input uses autoswitching and is recognising that the box is there.
A blank screen suggests the digibox isn't working, isn't getting any signal, or similar.
Can you borrow another box to see if that works?
What's changed since the last time it was working? Have you moved, re-plugged anything etc.?0 -
Not sure what point you are trying to make.
Either
Are you saying that the TV and freeview was working fine in April, i.e. receiving digital channels through the freeview box? If so what has changed?
Or
Are you saying that the TV was working in April and only now you are trying to get the freeview box working to receive digital channels?
A few random points:
Is the freeview box connected to the TV via scart?, if so then retuning the TV won't make any difference.
Is it possible to try the freeview box in another TV maybe at a friend's house - this way you can tell if the freeview box is working and also tune the freeview box (which has to be done).
Do you qualify for this scheme?
ETA:
Depending on where you live, the indoor aerial may not be good enough for the job
BUT As Googler says, You should still be able to see the menu on the freeview box, even with the aerial disconnected.

it does sound like an issue with the remote or the STB
best option is what what dave_c suggests, try plugging it in a different tv and that will tell if issue is the STB0 -
Definitely should be able to see the menu. Silly question time, is the freeview box actually on? Are the batteries in the remote OK? Double check the scart is on OK, and do not assume that you can use the coax out on the box, most of the coax out are just a daisy chain for the coax in in that they just output the tv signal from the aerial rather than the box. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

thanks for the answers.
The last time I played them together was January 2012. I have moved and I have a new aerial. I tried the aerial on a different TV and it works. I dont have a second freeview box to try with.
The box and TV are connected via a SCART. I have checked and it seems securely connected. I will go through all the AV channels.
The box is responding to the remote insofaras turning off and on."enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0 -
The SCART you have it plugged into should be marked/numbered - something like AV1, AV2, A1, A2 or perhaps STB. Look on the back of the TV to see what it is, then select that one. There's no value in going through 'all the AVs' when you know which one it's connected to.
Having done this, you should be able to see some kind of menu from the Digibox. If not, it looks like the digibox may be goosed.
Can you borrow one from someone else to try? Do you have any other playback devices you can try in the same SCART? VHS? DVD player?0 -
Have you tried the box on the other TV to see if it comes up?
You don't need to plug the aerial into it, just scart it into the other TV. We had a faulty scart socket on a TV a while back, it just "went" overnight and we could not get anything over it.What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
