Guy hit the back of me..

Hey guys,

About 2 weeks ago, I was trying to park up and there was a car behind me trying to squeeze past while I was clearly parking.. The back of my clipped the front of his.

There was superficial, very minor 1 scratch to his car and NOTHING on mine. Most people would've walked away, but this guy was adamant that he wants to get the insurers involved or at lest for me to pay for the scratch repair.

I have a witness who claims it was the other drivers fault.

If he were to notify insurers, what would the process be? Would I be eligible to make my case? How does this work? He tried calling me for the first time today, but I am hesitant to answer until I know what my defense is and options are. Like I said, I (as well as the witness) think it was his fault and as the damage to his car was practically invisible and non-existent on mind, I'd just like to walk away from it...

Any ideas?

Cheers as always!

Is the witness independent or a passenger in your car? Were you reversing at the time?

    Hi guys,

I think it was both of us moving, but I can't really be 100% certain.

The witness was a passer by pedestrian.

No I did not inform my insurer.. There was no damage to my car..

If you were both moving it will be 50/50.
If he was stationary. It's your fault.

Read your policy book about collisions. You need to inform them.

were in the same situ as you, my father was driving my car had to reverse from a blocked entrance, informed the insurers (need to do by law), and we have to take the full responsibility, even thou he may or may not have seen us reversing, it doesn't matter, your be liable for any costs to his vechile, and any claims he makes......

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, I asked them to see of they could go 50/50 as the other driver would have literally been up the rear for the postion of the hit but its always the car reversing. so you need to inform your insurers asap. They may already know if the other driver took your reg number and notified his /her insurers.

do you have the contact details for the witness, would they be prepared to go full through to court of it came to it? x

Thanks for sharing.. Bad news indeed and sorry hear about your position!

It's such a minor scratch, he's being a jerk if he were to go to insurers.

The witness would go to court and yes I do have his details. He is the owner of one of the cafes next to where the incident occurred.

Would it be worth notifying my insurer now? Or is it too late?

Well if he claims off your insurance what do you think they will make of the fact yet haven't told them?

Look, not everybody is an expert in insurance, and the insurance company know that.

They won't start going "WHY HAVEN'T YOU ALREADY TOLD US ABOUT THIS???????", they'll merely note down the details and move forward with the claim.

Stop with the made up horror stories, they don't exist.
