I switched from Halifax to Santander a few years ago, hassle free. I had a £1000 o/d with Halifax and Santander gave me £800 I think it was. Got a letter from Santander listing all my s/o and dd and I just had to confirm and send it back. Easy peasy :D

(but I know for lots of others on here it's not so easy peasy! :o)

Switching is mainly managed through the BACS company for all banks and tends to be fairly painless but certainly sometimes mistakes are made.

You cannot have held ANY products with FD at ANY time to be eligible but you'd be fine with HSBC accounts. Personally it turned out I had had an ISA years ago with them which only existed for a year before being closed but this excluded me from the offer.

I switched from HSBC to First Direct about five years ago. It all went without a hitch. I was offered a £3000 overdraft (same as I had with HSBC) but told them I only needed £1500.

I've had no cause to criticise them at all.
