Thanks Lakeuk, but if I buy the lightscribe writer as it supports some faster speeds, I take it I can decide to buy ordinary DVD's (not lightscribe) and burn them, ie it wont only take lightscribe ones (sorry for probably silly question). I may do the occasional lightscribe one but probably not often, especially if they are very expensive.0 -
That's correct. You have the option to use Lightscribe if you want to.Thanks Lakeuk, but if I buy the lightscribe writer as it supports some faster speeds, I take it I can decide to buy ordinary DVD's (not lightscribe) and burn them, ie it wont only take lightscribe ones (sorry for probably silly question). Well if you just have the ribbons that means you only have IDE connections and therefore can only support a total of 4 IDE devices (Hard drives or Optical Drives). You don't want to couple a Hard disk and an Optical drive on the same ribbon so you will have to replace one of your two exisiting optical drives (i'd suggest the CD-R/W drive). Reason being, should you ever want to copy a dvd, you need something that can read one disk while burning in another - though you can do it all on one drive, just means swapping dvds.
So all you need to do now is buy your prefered drive, yank the old one out and replace it with the new one. I'd recommend you flash the drive after you install it (update the firmware) as that often fixes little bugs, improves compatibility and sometimes increases the speed of the drive - but that is another subject.Faith is believing what you know ain't so...0
