Hi Everybody
If some ones JSA is stopped what happens to their claim for Housing Benefit? Would their payments also be stopped?
What about if the person signs off officially? Would this mean their HB would cease automatically?

Generally DWP notify your local Authority that your claim has ceased and you will need to inform LA of your Change in circumstances.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0

Have you started work-If you have been in receipt of JSA for 26 weeks or more you may be entitled to a run on of HB/CTB of 4-5 weeks.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0

Depends on whether contribution based or income based JSA was being paid. If it's income based and stops for a reason other than a sanction HB will need to ascertain your income and capital to keep paying. Usually, HB would be suspended until income and capital details are supplied. This is becuase whilst income based JSA is being paid HB go along with the DWP assessment of income and capital unless there's a good reason for HB to doubt the DWP's decision on this.Edit - except for the run on period allen35 highlights,0

I'm not 100% sure but I think it's Income based JSA.
I'm asking on the forum as I really want to sign off (and I'm hoping that I can manage without JSA). But, I still want to get my HB paid. And ideally I don't want my payments to be interrupted i.e. have to put a new claim in for HB.
And secondly i was hoping to get working tax credits. Saying that I'm sell employed working over 30 hours per week which will be true.
I'd appreciate any advice.

As soon as the JSA is stopped, they will write to the local council and advise them, you will then get a letter from the local council confirming that the benefit for housing and councel tax has been suspended and they will ask you to complete a very simple form, all you have to do is to return by the date stated, as you are going to be self employed you will need to estimate your earnings anf they will confirm what benifit you will get, you will have to submit and updated earnins, sometimes monthly or 3 monthly depending on your local council, Give them i call and explain, they should be able to help you out....0
