Home Contents insurance, should I take it out???

:THi, im new to this so hope ive posted in right place!.

Ive just done a quote for contents insurance and I think its a bit much, now my circumstances are I private rent so only need contents, I have a lot of items in my house but the most expensive item I own is unfortunately my tv, my quote is to cover a lot of cheaper items if this makes sense so im sort of thinking unless I am really unlucky and several items break or are stolen at the same time is it worth me having a £200 excess when I could replace the fridge for that amount if it broke... do you guys see the point im making just not sure what to do!

Thanks in advance

I think you are being naive and are trying to talk ourself out of contents insurance because you don't want it and are trying to get someone on here to back you up.

Worse case scenario. You go to work one day wearing your clothes and carrying your mobile phone. You come back home to find your house surrounded by firemen who are just putting out the fire in your home. Everything in your home has been consumed by fire and the only things you now possess are the clothes you went out in and a mobile phone. How will you replace your TV, anyfurniture, clothes, laptop, DVDs, CDs, etc etc. Even if you have a modest amount of possessions, you will still have to find £5lk to replace everything.

So now tell me contents insurance isn't worth having.

For a start, contents insurance wont cover stuff breaking down like your fridge.

Insurance really isnt there for minor losses like dropping and breaking your phone - you'll find you get little after the excess is deducted and the loaded premiums massively outweigh it. What it is there for is when your home burns to the ground or burglars empty the place whilst your off on holiday.

In the end its your choice, on average you will evidently be worse off than if you didnt buy the insurance but of cause the very idea of insurance is that you know on average youll be slightly worse off but protected from being exceptionally worse off if the place does burn down

Insurance is always a waste of money.

    Until you need to claim.

take it from me .. get contents insurance!!! we thought we had both buildings and contents .. I had a kitchen fire and discovered we only had buildings insurance .. we had only just done out the kitchen ..new cooker, washing machine, tumble dryer etc etc was absolutley gutted when it dawned on us that we only had buildings .. the fire was contained to the kitchen so we were lucky, but it cost us an absolute fortune .. (not including the fact that it was washing day so machines were both full and loads of clean clothes waiting to be put away.. all ruined!!) don't make our mistake!
