If you are not inTo gaming or use software needing more computing power than why not go for an AMD processor?

Intel is expensive and you can save some money from processor and spend it on memory or bigger harddisk.

Also, have you considered building your own desktop? You can easily build a higher specs AMD machine (do it only if you have technical know-how) within that budget.

Perhaps you can price something up for the OP.

Thank you all so much for your input, it is so much appreciated truly! As I am reading the words about ips, dsr etc I realise I have a lot to learn!Lol!

I have an office windows disc with outlook, word etc which I got in the Best Buy sale ages ago, so that will be the package I will be using when I get the computer.

Ok, I will take a look at the links provided and see what I can find, if anyone has a link like the HP one stop shop one, please let me know.

Anyway, thanks Takethis, coolhot cold, gonzo127, neil49, reallyannoyed and liubeliu!!

Personally I would avoid AMD at the moment as the Trinity APU's (Piledriver) will be coming out soon and I would feel a bit miffed if something I purchased became superseded so quickly. If you don't mind then by all means look at the older Bulldozer chips.

An Ivy Bridge equipped i3 system shouldn't set the OP back too much and at least then it should last a good while. I did try to look at the Lenovo site to see what they had available but the desktop part seems to be broken so can't at the moment.

As for Office I think all new PC's now come with Office 2010 starter which gives you Word and Excel but not powerpoint. Perhaps just install the old version of powerpoint and see how you get on with the free version of the other 2. I use it at home and it does me fine.

Also any new PC now will come with a £14.99 upgrade option for Windows 8. AMD have said that Windows 7 is part of the reason their newer chips perform relatively poorly compared to expectation and that things will improve under Windows 8 which is better designed to use them but only time will tell on that one.

You won't get a good deal trying to buy the whole lot together.

I've never seen an IPS screen in a bundle. You'll end up with mediocre equipment.

+1 for a re-install or follow the sticky.

My desktop is an ageing 2005 vintage 1.2 Mhz Duron 1.5MB of RAM running Windows XP and Office 2003. Updated to XP in 2007

More than adequate for Surfing/ Emails/Word /Excel and playing old games (see my Avatar)

My beloved Dell AT102W clicky keyboard is even older!
