Xmas is ages away. They will probably be even cheaper by then.Iva started Dec 2018.0

Personally I would avoid anything saying "Bush"!
I'm not sure whether Hitachi are still well rated.
Not only might TVs be cheaper by Christmas, there may well be newer models! (I can say that without fear of contradiction every three months...)0 -
I agree with Michael. Wait until nearer the time, something bigger and better will be available by then for the same amount of money.0

The problem with all of these ultra budget brand TVs is they frequently suffer from terrible motion smearing amoungst other problems. Fine if you are just watching Brookside or soap operas but not so good if your watching sport or playing video games that have fast motion.
Given its a present it may not be appropriate but personally on such a limited budget I would look at getting a secondhand TV that would have in the upper end of the spectrum 3 years ago or so and now will have slumped in price0 -
How old are the children and what will they be using it for?
Agree with PPs that waiting would be a good idea as specs/prices will improve.
For the extra few quid I would stay away from BUSH/ALBA. although my DD has a19" version of the later, with a sharp picture, which is fine for watching the drivel she likes.
Just replaced a TV for gaming and secondary viewing , looked at the budget stuff and then went for an LG (26") with an LED/LCD screen , to save power when endlessly used for gaming. Slim fit also goes well in bedroom, good sharp picture. No discernible blurring, technology moves on in 3 years.
In the end I went RGB (no VI) who were good on price and delivered next day."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Have a look on Ebay for manufacturer refurbished ones with manufacturer g'tees. We got a great deal for a Toshiba about a year ago.0
