Thanks everyone, some really useful stuff here. I certainly get the point about over-valuation of 2nd hand goods and the chances of a subsequent dim view from the taxman. That last suggestion is a great one, cheers Pingleist, I hadn't thought about it that way before. I'll suggest it, see what they say. They can only refuse.0

I think everyone is being a bit gloomy on this thread. I would take the tack that if the vendors take the carpets that it is not practical to recarpet with second hand carpet therefore the effective value of the fitted carpets (if in reasonable condition) is more or less the same as the cost of having new fitted. Could easily be 5k. Perhaps the range cooker is exactly the right one for the space (non standard width?) and if the vendors took it you would have to do some building work to fit a new one in - therefore value to you as a buyer could be more than actual new purchase price (if original model no longer available).
If you go for high values you must have justifications - if you do should HMCE investigate you can send them packing.0 -
