Redundancy - what benifits?

Can someone tell me - when made redundant (with a healthy package) assuming you go onto JSA?

I suspect zero would be paid out (because of the healthy redundancy payment) but want to make sure NI contributions are paid up and think that's the best way to do it?

Also - does the amount you have in savings effect entitlement to tax credit?
Do you actually need to get jsa/esa cash...or does being registered and having your NI paid count as receipt enough, to get the tax credits?

thanks x

Found out today as long as you have savings of below £16000 then JSA will not be affected.

Contributions based JSA will be paid regardless of savings. When I was made redundant 2 years ago I had the thick end of +£100K package sitting in the bank but received JSA from day one for 6 months.
