Getting insurance quotes for external painters

Hi guys,
So I'm getting the outside of my house painted, and am wondering how to go about verifying the tradesman's insurance? Has anyone had to do this? Also what type of insurance should I be demanding?
Our house is a terrace straight on the street, other tradesmen giving quotes said that because of the height of the house, that the cars on the street would have to be removed as the wind could/would spray some of the paint onto them.
Thanks a lot!

your painter should have public liability insurance - ask him for certificate . it's much easier for people to move their cars whilst painting is in progress than having irate neighbours ranting that their cars are covered in paint spots0

You don't get a "Certificate" for Public Liability, ask to see the policy schedule, some Insurers or brokers will issue a declaration confirming cover0 -
I wouldnt 'demand' anything, if he's not short of work, you could wake up one morning with all your windows painted over.
Give him some credit for thinking about the cars, lots of tradesman wouldnt even think about it. Good for him.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
