Washer Dryer... I have never managed to work out how I can use the dryer!

Oh dear, it's me again.
10 years ago I bought an AEG Washer Dryer and although the washing machine works very well, I cannot for the life of me work out how to use the dryer. If I switch on that setting the drum does not heat up and I can't really understand the instructions in the booklet that came with it. Does anyone have any advice on what might be missing in order for the dryer to work? I think I need to buy some kind of a pipe to allow hot air to escape...?
Thank you

Do you need to set some form of timer?
The only ones I have seen it has been part of the rotary control dial."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
