mis-sold contents insurance

In February I took out contents insurance. I very specifically asked for a policy that covered my mobile phone and laptop. Today my phone got run over by a car and when I phoned the insurers I was told the policy didn't cover phones or laptops. The broker is looking into it but looks like I'll have a long wait with no phone! Any ideas on what I can demand of the brokers who clearly mis-sold this policy? I'm a working single mum with not much time or cash!

Did you specify cover for these items away from home?I am a mortgage broker. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Assuming it was miss sold then most commonly would be the honouring of the claim
That said, what model of phone was it? What is your policy excess? Is it contract or PAYG? If contract much left of the contract do you have? Is this the first content insurance you've had, if not how many years have you had it? How did the accident actually happen? Did you not read the exclusion when you received the documents?
Normally a small claim like this would not be worth actually making when you consider everything such as loaded premiums for the next 3-5 years0 -
Thanks for getting back.
Yes I did absolutely specify outside of the home and particularly specified both my mobile and laptop. I also specifically asked for accidental damage - this is the bit the insurers are now contesting despite it being there in their paperwork. They say they don't insure mobiles or laptops for accidental damage.
The broker has agreed to pay themselves so thats good. What I need to know is can I cancel the insurance now I know its useless to me and can I claim money back that I've paid to date - about £100 - for useless insurance?0 -
Its a contract phone and the phone is worth about £300 to replace.0
