How hard can this be?

Hi, I am in the middle of trying to buy a 2 year old Vauxhall car from a Ford main dealer. Lots of contact trying to thrash out a p/x price, eventually got there, and made a call earlier to start to finalise it all. I was advised I had 1 hour before the car goes to auction, as they had had it for 90 days! I was also bemused to see the price on Autotrader had gone from £9000 last night to £ 10,000 today. Kind of losing the plot on this one.

Plenty of more pebbles on the beach, never be harried into a car purchase.0

Yeah, no reasonable car dealer would ship a car off to auction when a customer is discussing buying it; they'd risk getting less for it at auction than the sale. They'll send cars to auctions every week or so, so holding onto it to the next round shouldn't be an issue, and it'd be easier for them to sell it to you.
That and the price increase on autotrader just make it sound like they are trying to rush you to decide.0 -
Ask them which auction house and get a grand or two off.0

It crossed my mind to ask. I have said I will sell mine to a trade buyer and want to know their lowest cash price. That was 4 hours ago.0

pressure sale. they want you to clinch the offer they put to you and trying to pressure you into signing on the dotted line on their terms. i'd say goodnight irene you lost a sale.0

Agree'd...... Only I wouldn't be half as polite about it. I get seriously vicious (nearly said viscous) when salesfolk try to treat me like an idiot

Something doesnt ring quite true on this one.
90 day window sort of makes sense but its a Ford dealer and if they took a Vauxhall in PX they would try it for a week or two and then trade out of it but 90 days on a non franchise car sounds wrong.
Price has gone up just before the been blue cross event when they knock 10% off the price would be my guess.0 -
Thanks for input on this. It is a real strange one, and not what I was expecting from a main dealer. After asking the question of how much for a straight cash price, they have ignored me!! That doesn't bother me much, just cannot see what is behind it.0

just walk away. just imagine if you did buy it after all this hassle and then run into a problem, they dont want to sell it to you never mind repair it if it went wrong. walk away keep you cash and smile.0 -
Unexpected update. I went against all I thought on this. They eventually came back with a price that I couldn't resist and I took the car on Saturday. It's still 16 months inside warranty and, for the money, I am really impressed with it.0
