If you got this 3 days after the policy started, then you must have received the NIP prior to the policy starting, and should have disclosed it prior to the inception date.

The £165 admin charge seems OTT, so go back to them and get this itemised. If it is indeed just an admin charge, you might want to complain it is excessive and ask them to reduce it.

Then take it from their reply. If necessary you can escalate the complaint down their complaints procedure and then on to the FOS. The complaints procedure will be set out in the policy.

Points are from the date of the offence, not the date of the conviction.

This is certainly true for Fixed Penalty Points.

But when endorsed at court, both dates will be endorsed on the licence; the insurers can ask for either or both dates, but the RHA 1974 clock starts on the date of conviction, not of the offence. http://www.lawontheweb.co.uk/Road_Traffic_Law/Rehabiliation_of_Offenders_Act
Presumably this is to prevent an offender putting court off for long enough that they could benefit by having to declare their conviction for a shorter period that anyone else.
