igoogle being withdrawn 1Nov2013

Hello folks.... Google advises that they are withdrawing the popular igoogle facility in November next year.
A lot of IE users use this as their home page (eg news/sport/business headlines etc), so was wondering what other options there are out there which could replace it?
I would beg all Chrome/Firefox/opera aficiandos to resist the temptation to recommend changing browsers, we know that is an option - but that isn't the question!

http://my.yahoo.com/ is one possibility. It looks nicer than igoogle imo.
The free version of Netvibes is another I've seen suggested though I know nothing about it.0 -
iGoogle wasn't popular with me. And I don't understand why they stopped supporting the Google Toolbar - one-click access to Google Maps, Images, etc...0

Thank you.
Two reasons for not using Yahoo (i) I prefer Google as a search engine, (ii) Ads do drive me mad, especially when you can't "delete" them
I had a look at Netvibes - guess is is aimed at professional organisations for the monitoring of social networks, probabaly over the top, as would prefer something a little simpler.John_Gray wrote:iGoogle wasn't popular with me. Just like MS when they get to big, they loose touch with common sense, and make decisions that just rebound on them. Or maybe they think the world will switch overnight to win 8 metro desktop
Anyone else with any other suggestions please?0 -
Is anybody using http://www.protopage.com/
I've just found it from a search from igoogle;)
First impression is it looks promising, but I wonder if there are any issues.0 -
Hi, and thank you for the suggestion.
Have given it a whirl, and does most of what I would like. Just a couple of issues, the first is the most critical.
1. There is no UK weather gadget, apart from accuweather which when resized just shows the advert!
2. The search bar box top right can't be resized or dragged into the main window - just too small really.
I have given feedback to protopage, hopefully there will be feedback for them to address peeps comments.
Thank again0 -
What makes you think that only IE users use iGoogle? I and many other Firefox/ Chrome users use it as their homepage.0

I guess he was meaning that IE comes pre-configured with MSN as the homepage and lots of IE users change this to be iGoogle.
The subsequent comment was to make it clear that this thread is NOTHING to do with IE vs other browsers, so as to try and nip any such "discussion" in the bud.0 -
iGoogle/Firefox for me.
I like it and will be sorry to see it go.
Perhaps Mozilla could produce iFirefox.0 -
I've read that Netvibes has seen a significant increase in the level of enquiries. Contrary to the above can be configured to do what igoogle does, but it isn't so simple to set-up.
Anyone had success at that? My guess is that there will be quite a bit of activity by entities etc trying to emulate what igoogle does over the next 15 months or so, be patient and watch the space.....0 -
My preferred alternative so far is Startme.com which I mostly use for bookmarks and RSS feeds. It also supports search engines including Google (and Yahoo, should anyone disagree with the poster a few posts above me).0
