no i didn't and even if i did the previous owner would dispute someone told me. I dont have a leg to stand on apart from my current usage0
-
ive got the estimated bills dating back up to that date though0

so basically, if i was to 'look up' the old reading... would would that
put me in a btter situatuion?0 -
How would you look it up?0

there are ways.0

trust me if you try anything underhand, you will get caughtDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Making up an opening reading now won't work as they will assume you've.. er.. made it up. All you can do now is to appeal to their good nature which is going to be an uphill struggle.0

The way to investigate this from a supplier perspective is to get a reading now and re-estimate the change of occupier reading. This is the most basic check, but it may prove that a previous estimation was based on low consumption.
This could still remain inaccurate, hence the supplier could ask you to take readings over 7 days at the same time then work out your average kwh per day. Then work out a grand average kwh. This again, isn't accurate due to seasons but its better.
In terms of chasing the previous occupant, if they prove they dodged a bill by manipulating low estimates, they will. Also, upon proving your usage thy cannot hold you accountable without enough proof to suggest its still your consumption i.e. you have reduced it a lot since, hence your usage was heavier at the start.
Since you didn't take your reading, you my underpay or overpay due to a new estimation, but there is little you can do about that. I don't know how you say you can find out as the meter has advanced so you would need a time machine for that.
Before you get into 3rd party disputes, do this. Anyone who understands billing would quickly see an issue where your consumption worked backwards is nowhere near your estimate.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
thanks for that guys.
So shall I just be straight up and tell them my last few months readings?
So my routes are:
1) to explain the situation
2) if that doesnt work, make a complaint in writing/ email
3) then complain to ofgem0
