Which tablet do you think will triumph between the Apple iPad and Microsoft's Surface? Apple has such a big hold over the market, but could Microsoft's new Windows 8 tablet bring something new to the table? - http://contractorweekly.com/contractor-news/the-weekly-tea-bag/489-apple-vs-microsoft

PERSONALLY the surface is more interesting for me mainly down to the keyboard case and flip stand idea which gives it the ability to be a bit more than just a consumption device should the need arise, however it will depend on the price, availability, and timing of proper launch of the surface + the reaction from apple for their ipad 4 when its launched
on top of this you do have the nexus 7 which i think could make some major waves in the tablet sector just down to its expected price tag,Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Its not really between Apple and Microsoft any more, its Apple V Google. Microsoft are so late in the game, its already over.
In my opionion, Google have the edge. The future of tablets is choice, price and innovation and cloud storage. For Apple its all about how much of the Jobs-era momentum they can keep going, for Google its about thinking of innovations and letting tablet manufactures worry about the specifications of the devices.0 -
It's down to price; Apple products are very expensive.
If the Micro$oft one is more cost effective then it may work out for it.
But the home screen of the MS one doesn't look very inviting, TBH.
Also, Microsoft make their money selling the OS and having other companies produce the hardware; doing their own thing effectively cuts out those other manufacturers, who will then go on with their own implementations in competition.0 -

There will be people who will stick with windows devices, but as has been said they're awfully late in the game. With Google bringing out their new device which is spec and price competitive, I think Microsoft will struggle to pull much of the market.
People are very comfortable with Android, and iOS, and want to stick with known OS. Microsoft will gain some sales, but unless apple bring out a pantsy iPad4 then I think by it's very nature, and big hold on the market already, apple will reign for a fair bit longer.
I Am doubtful how good an iPad 4 will be. Correction, I should say innovative. The iPad 3 was barely worth the announcements (imo!) which, I feel, is why the iPad 2 is still up for general sale alongside. With the death of Jobs, it almost seems like they're floundering in the water a bit now, and struggling to push innovative forward.
Google v apple for the future.0 -
I reckon Google (Android) is going to win out on this eventually. The gap in hardware quality between Apple & Android devices is going to reduce. The gap in user experience between Apple & Android is going to lessen too.
Then you're going to be left with a choice between 2 tablets which are practically the same, but you have to pay a big premium for one because it's Apple. Sure Apple will still sell iPads, but I think they'll become a minor high end luxury player like they are in the PC market.0 -
I stumbled upon this last night whilst looking into buying the new Samsung Series 5 - 550 (XE550C22-H01UK) Chromebook.
It's a look at both iPAD and Surface side by side and I must say I was surprised - on first view the Slate is looking OK - bearing in mind it's in early days.
It's on Youtube called "iPad iOS 5 vs Windows 8 Slate" by winrumors.0 -
I don't think price will come into it. Yes, some of Apples stuff is expensive but when it comes to the IPad it is very competitively priced and most manufacturers struggle to beat it.
As has already been said I think Microsoft are simply too late to the game. I think their interface looks quite good though - out of all the interfaces (OS5, Android, Surface) I think Apple's is probably the worst.0 -
I suspect the Surface machines will be a lot more 'business ready' than the Apple and Google ones, which are more consumer-led. I also suspect the MS ones will be almightily expensive but brilliant as Google hold the low ground with Android, no point entering that race, and Apple hold the consumer mid-high market.0
