Of cause it could be a random man from cameroon who's seemingly only thing they are doing is spooking you but it could also be a "friend" or relative thinking they're having a bit of a laugh.

On the basis there sounds to be no attempt to exhort anything from you, trick you into giving anything etc I personally would think it is much more likely to be the latter.

You can do a clean sweep of your mothers PC, never a bad idea anyway with windoze, but ultimately just block the account and ignore it

Apologies if you took this the wrong way.

No offense taken just thought it was odd and you deleting your original post made it look like I was talking to myself.

Anyway following on from lovinituk's post

    • If it's not a working PC then the hard disk must be extracted and put in a working PC
or an external caddy of which they are easily made or cheaply bought

    • Remember that it was dumped - maybe a hard disk failure.
or maybe old tech that has been replaced and actually works fine but is now surplus to requirements

    • The hard disc must be working or it's no use. Yes it's possible to extract data from a broken HD - if you are a dedicated data recovery team and you know that there is valuable data to recover. Very time consuming.
like all areas of this field its all time consuming but we are talking about the same people who spend days sitting in internet cafes spamming people with business opportunities, read up on 419 scams and the lengths some of these people go to.

    • Then you have to get the hard disk to boot. If there was a BIOS password set then you are screwed
true but also its more likely that there isnt a password

    • Then you have to get past any the password the original user used.
    if there is one

    • Then you can start trawling the hard disc, but there is still no guarantee that there is valuable info on there.
again true but as previously stated these people have one valuable commodity and that's time, if 1 pc in 100, like the 419 scam, pays off they are more than quids in
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right
