Diverting home phone to mobile

Options
Hi,

I need a bit of help with this one, I currently use my home phone for incoming business calls(TV aerial erector) and because people seem to hate leaving messages on the answerphone at home I have diverted all incoming calls to my work mobile.

The problem is that my Virgin Media bill is astronomical because of these diverted calls. Is there anything I can do to minimise the cost?

The work mobile is Orange(15 months left of 18 month contract) but would like to keep this long term as have a very good deal with them. I am thinking of getting another line installed at home for Personal use only as some of the calls that are diverted are not business related.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I assume you are a Virgin Media Cable Customer. If you havent already done so you could get Talkmobile ( £1.50p a month) and reduce the cost of the calls diverted to the mobile by 25%,to 11.25 p a minute peak, plus 6p connection.

Another alternative if you dont mind altering numbers around is to get yourself a Free Geographical Voip number to use for your business inbound calls. See https://www.orbtalk.co.uk Divert the number direct to your mobile permanently, call costs are 11.75p (including vat) a minute peak, its second billing, you want pay a 6p connection charge,or the monthly Talk mobile call divert fee,nor do you pay any extra line rental. This will also free up your existing number for personal calls only.

Would I be able to transfer my existing number to this service as all my business advertising displays this number?

Also would changing to one of the Talk Anywhere packages be beneficial?

Some Voip suppliers allow you to port your number, but if its an original cable number they may not be able to do this.

The Talk Anywhere package could be beneficial as they bring the cost of mobile calls right down, provided they include diverted calls. You would need to check with them.

  • I have 3 lines in the house

Personal, business landline and business fax.

You should get another line in for business use (that way the seperate landline is an identifiable business expense.)

I have done this for a few years. The business land line costs me £75 per month approx.

To cut your costs call the client back (using your free landline minutes) and the call costs will drop. (I put it 'i'll call you back to save your phone bill')
    baldly going on...

Where can I find details of this? I've looked on the Orange website, but don't see anything about free orange calls.

Your need the free Orange BB you can get with a Orange Mobile with a new 18 month contact of £30 a month or more to do this, and it will cost you £5 a month extra

    See: http://www.orange.co.uk/time/livebox/talk.htm

    and http://www.orange.co.uk/time/livebox/destination_list.htm

I can see no mention of being able to set up call divert though, although you do appear to get another geo number.

Is anyone using the virgin phone call divert service to a virgin mobile?

I have broadband, phone, tv and phoned up today enquired about upgrading to the all 4 service inc virgin mobile and asked the question "would i be charged an additional mobile rate for the divert" and they said it wouldn't cost anything, it would be inclusive. I am doubtful and not very confident in this response considering other customer service conversation.

So can anyone confirm it doesn't cost anything?

i want proof before tranfering from O2, though I may ask for this to be confirmed in writing as well before commiting.
