Plaster to cover Artex

Options
Been quoted £200 to plaster an Artex'd ceiling and fill two old electrical socket holes. This includes all materials. The room is 3.5 x 4.0m

Any thoughts? I've used this chap before; he's good, quick and reliable, but I thought it may have been cheaper than this?

plastering over artex is never as cheap as doing a normal wall, plaster skim is only between 3mm-5mm thick, so to plaster over artex the ceiling has to be scraped first to make it as flat as possible & the artex may contain distemper so may need to be sealed first, plasterers can only do a certain amount of work in a day due to having to let the plaster go off slightly before the final going over with the trowel, so it's unlikely that he will be able to do anything else that day so he will prob be charging you for a day's work. the price isn't ott imo.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Same as the post above.More than 1/2 a days work so is limited to what other work he could do that day.The plasterer could plaster more m2 in the time allotted but is limited by the size of your ceiling.
Wouldn't quibble at £200 if he is good, quick and reliable.

Work now complete and very happy. I got the ceiling done as well as two socket holes and a cable recess filled. Total cost was £200 and took around 6 hours. Plasterer had to use 3.5 bags of plaster due to the depth of the artex.

Got the decorator in now :rotfl:
