Well, there's advising tourists to use their common sense and scaremongering. I have certainly never experienced the last one and I have lived and worked in this area now for nearly 4 years. The other incidents can happen, but they are rare. The OP just needs to be sensible/not wear those stupid bum bags/use their common sense.

Cant scare me ......... am Mum to four teens :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I have, and on the way up to La Defense of all places. Just general advice, although the first 3 are more probable.

Looking at parking at Bagnolet, then getting the metro from Gallieni into centre.

I was going to attempt to get a mobilis? so it's good to know the machine will switch to English!!!! Is Gallieni covered by a mobilis?
Yes, Gallieni is covered by a Mobilis. Gallieni is in zone 2, so you'll need a Mobilis zones 1-2. This ticket is €6,40 and will cover you for the entire day in the metro, bus and RER. This would be cheaper than getting a carnet of tickets. None of your 'kids' would be eligible for the half fare unfortunately...but €6,40 for each of the five of you is still only €32, which is not bad for a full day's transport for five people.

Don't get the Paris Visite. It's intended for people staying longer than you anyway and it's a rip-off in all cases :D

Don't worry about the walking thing if you won't be able to do much. I find the metro system in Paris to be very quick and efficient compared with the London Underground, and some of the lines (such as line 6) are also partly above ground so you will get some views of the city this way.

You may well also be able to park on the street nearer to Gallieni metro rather than bothering with the Park and Ride, but this is a gamble and I don't know the area so can't advise you.

Hope that helps a bit :)

Brilliant that helps a lot so many thanks.

we'll aim for the Vinci car park at Bagnolet, if we can park on the street we will do so. If not bagnolet car park is 24 hours, so no rush to come back.

Will get a mobilis and wander.

Many thanks again this is the first time the kids have asked to do something cultural rather than beaches, water parks or theme parks. So am keen to accomodate them and for it to work so they ask again!!!!

Just popping back to say thanks to angelil.

trip completed with some minor niggles.
Sat nav refused to acknowledge the bagnolet car park, it's address post code or any of the streets listed on the Vinci car park site. But we knew roughly the area, so set off anyway. However the car park toally eluded us!!!!! We could see the Gallieni metro but not the damm carpark ggggggrrrrr.

Luckly we'd forseen this may happen and had noted two car parks near another metro stop. And although we had no idea if the other car parks were 24 hrs etc like Bagnolet we had no choice but to go and find them. We found both and parked in one, cost just over 11 euros for the time was was parked.
Got the metro locally from Mairie des lilas ( excuse spellings)
we looked at Notre Dame, Palace of Justice, Eiffel tower, Moulin Rouge, Arc, Lourve, Champs elysees, we didn't go into any of the tourist places but simply looked. we also walked along the Seine for a little bit.

was very tiring and a bit of a stress trying to fnd the first car park, esp we didnt want to end up on the ring road!!! But we survived and had a great day.

many many thanks for all you help

    Hi shelldean

You're welcome! I'm glad you had a nice trip. That's really annoying about the car park though :( Blooming sat navs! At least you will have an idea for another time if you ever do the same again.

it wasn't entirely the sat navs fault as I had a printed map showing the location of the car park, yet despite driving round and round we could see no signs. The only car park we could find in that area was the Auchan one which had limited parking.
But all worked out in the end.

DS is now planning which other captial cities he'd like to visit LOL
