Barclays closes my account

So I went overdrawn by £150 in my Barclays young person account.

The lady in the branch said I can clear it with small payments but I got a letter saying on the 7th July they will close my account! :o

Is there any way for me to stop this from happening? I like banking with Barclays Bank.

The letter also says "We will be unable to offer you new banking products"

Will this mean I cannot obtain a financial service from Barclays ever again!? or even get a job with them

You will be able to bank with Barclays in the future, but probably not in the short term. It may be worth speaking to the lady in the branch again, especially if the implication was that your account was not going to be closed.

To be honest I'm not sure why you 'like' banking with a bank that is closing your account - you are their customer, not the other way round!

Yes, for a while. Not sure about the job part but are you applying?

However, I suggest you just find another bank. I really don't like Barclays. Queues are always long and they're not flexible. Their processes are also inefficiently dealt with.

    Go with Halifax or Natwest..

Barclays seem to give people gimmacks, like personalised debit cards (but not until after they've sold them for the last few months @ £6.95 each)

Other banks seem to give you something useful, like interest on your current account, or free fivers.

Barclays obviously don't want you. Apply elsewhere and get more.

As said above, just take it on the chin and take your business elsewhere. The only thing I'd add is to avoid Halifax if you are making use of overdraft facilities - there's a £1/day usage fee for authorised overdraft and £5/day for unauthorised on their current accounts.

The same thing happened to me many years ago, can't remember the details, but when I paid off the loan/or overdraft I got a letter telling me they were closing my account in a month.
S*d them go elsewhere, open another account now in case it take a while for dd etc.

The majority of banks, if you have an overdraft which you can't repay, will agree repayments with you and then close your account. It's not unusual. They want their money back and you have shown that you can't manage your account within it's limits.

All you can do is to call them to discuss it but to be honest, i can't see why you would want to keep dealing with them. You can get much better service with other banks.
